John GallianoJohn Galliano is a British fashion designer born to parents with Spanish and Gibraltarian heritage. He is a graduate of London’s Central St Martin’s fashion school. He graduated from his course in the early eighties and has won the British Designer of the Year four times. One of the times the award was co-won by Alexander McQueen. He is regarded as a contemporary of McQueen and is also cited as being an influence and assistance to many designers such as Patrick Cox.

Galliano’s collections have always been very flamboyant even his graduation collection featured inspiration from the French Revolution. It had a great response and Browns, the famous London boutique purchased the whole collection. Galliano started a fashion line straight after graduation and was able to receive financial support from various backers over the years. He eventually moved his operation to Paris.

During his time in Paris, Galliano managed to climb the ranks of credibility and received help from many key figures in the fashion world such as Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue. His shows in the nineties featured many of the original supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Linda Evangelista. He has also collaborated with Kylie Minogue for her tour outfits.

As well as operating his own very successful and respected label, Galliano has also operated as a designer for a number of very high profile labels. In the mid nineties, Galliano started work as Givenchy’s designer. His appointment was a landmark, as there had never before been a British head designer of a French fashion label. Following his success with Givenchy, Galliano moved across to Christian Dior.

John Galliano clothing has always had a strong celebrity following with people such as Madonna and Charlize Theron being huge fans of his work. He still designs for Dior as well as producing new collections for his own John Galliano clothing label.
