Fred Perry
Fred Perry was a very successful English tennis player. He won Wimbledon three times and was the number one player in the world for more than four years. He is regarded as one of the best tennis players ever and managed to win most of the major tennis competitions in the world.
At the end of the forties, Perry was a hugely popular tennis star and he was approached to collaborate on a sportswear line. The classic piece of Fred Perry clothing is the t shirt with a collar and three buttons. It features the distinctive laurel logo on the chest. This was launched in the early fifties as Wimbledon. It has been hugely popular since its launch in the fifties and more recently has featured many designers adding their own take on the classic piece. This includes designers such as David David and Comme des Garcons.
The polo shirt was adopted by the mods in the fifties and continued to be associated with music scenes such as northern soul in the seventies.
Since its early inception, Fred Perry has branched out into producing a range of men’s fashion.
