Effective Care for Teeth
English people are well known around the world for many things such as a biting wit, producing some of the best art, literature and music that the world has seen and bad teeth. This reputation is especially true in the US. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like that if you follow our simple guide to effective tooth care.
The first step is to ensure that you are using dental floss on your teeth. Dental floss can reduce risk of plaque or gum disease. Even so, not many people actually use it because many people can view it as a bit too much effort. There is a specific method for flossing so the best thing to do is to ask the dentist how it should be done. But here are some suggestions to get you started.
Use a piece of floss that is about a foot long and wrap it around one finger on each hand. Leave a couple of inches in the middle. Start at the back of the mouth and insert it in between your teeth scrubbing the bottom of the gap and the sides of the teeth.
Keep winding the floss to ensure a clean bit for each gap. It is important to go all the way to the gums which could result in bleeding but after a while this will stop. A good amount is to floss a couple of times every week.
Following on from flossing, the next essential step is to brush the teeth. While most people will brush twice a day, not everyone brushes for the suggested duration. It is recommended that teeth should be brushed for at least two minutes. A good method for reaching this is to use an electric toothbrush as many of them have an in built timer.
A useful addition to your tooth cleaning program is a whitening paste. They are useful for getting rid of stains that can occur from things such as tea and wine. Sugary drinks can also affect your teeth. This can include fizzy drinks but could also be fruit juices. Chewing gum can help protect the teeth after eating or drinking by promoting saliva which will help.
