Dries Van Noten
Dries Van Noten is a well regarded designer in the world of men’s fashion. He hails from Belgium but is known around the world. Many of the fashion press have commented that he is one of the more intelligent designers around. Although Van Noten has been involved in the fashion world for a long time his star fell during the early because of his more erratic designs and the dominance of “less is more” on the catwalks. His popularity has grown again in recent years and he was awarded with one of fashion’s highest honours during 2008. He also started to win favour with the Hollywood jet set by dressing many actors during the Academy Awards.
Like many fashion designers, Van Noten was born into the trade. His fashion lineage traces all the way back to his grandfather as well as his father being in the trade. Van Noten studied in Germany and started designing professionally in the mid nineteen eighties. His initial show resulted in interest from the large New York department store, Barneys. They still sell Van Noten’s pieces to this day.
Van Noten does not subscribe to the view that many designers hold which is to design completely out there collections that are not actually wearable. He designs for both men and women and for all seasons. He uses interesting, fabrics, colours and prints and does not use conventional methods to advertise.
He has remained in Germany and bases his work there. The majority of Dries Van Noten’s own boutiques are based in Asia. As well as a small number of boutiques, Dries Van Noten’s clothes are available in hundreds of stores around the world.
Since his return to glory, Van Noten has regularly been featuring great collections that appeal to his growing number of loyal customers.
