Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueenAlexander McQueen is known as the “enfant terrible” of fashion. He is regarded as a key player in the most recent wave of British fashion around the world. McQueen is a Londoner and cut his teeth as an apprentice tailor on Saville Row. He started working for Anderson & Sheppard but went on to the well regarded tailors Gieves & Hawkes. It was on Saville Row that McQueen fashion was honed not just as a designer but as a fine tailor.

After a period of time in Italy, he set his sites on becoming a teacher at the world renowned Central St Martins art school in London. After applying for the job, he was pushed to enrol on a course because the course manager was so blown away by his designs. This set him on the path to becoming a world renowned fashion designer.

Following his graduation, McQueen started to become known for pushing the boundaries of fashion when he started with his first collections. He designed the “bumster” trousers and came up with controversial names for his collections. He has also become well known for the effort that he puts into his shows. They are often more than just a conventional plain catwalk.

He took his career to the next level when he was appointed by Givenchy as their top designer. He continued to court controversy during his time there and managed to insult the founder and even his own collections. He had many successes during his time there but departed in 2001.

Alexander McQueen clothes went onto further success with the self named company. This followed on from winning “British Designer of the Year” a number of times. He has also won a number of other awards. His Alexander McQueen company is now part owned by Gucci which has allowed him to expand to open a number of global boutiques, expand his fashion line and launch a range of perfumes. He has also launched a celebrated line of trainers with Puma, the Alexander McQueen Puma.

The label now has a huge range of clothes ranging from jeans, and t shirts featuring his skull motif and the popular skull scarf.
